In the framework of expanding scientific and technical cooperation, and considering the high risk of earthquakes in Iran and Chile, RCECWA and the School of Engineering at Universidad Catolica del Norte (SoE-UCN) have signed an MoU to collaborate on various subjects related to earthquake risk reduction and management. The main topics of cooperation are as follows:
- Developing applicable and feasible methodologies for earthquake risk reduction of buildings, infrastructures and lifelines;
- Applying international research funds and implementing projects on disaster risk mitigation and management;
- Formulating earthquake risk mitigation and management master plans for urban areas;
- Organizing joint professional short-term training courses, seminars, workshops and graduate programs;
- Studying socioeconomic aspects of disasters and developing community-based measures for disaster risk mitigation and management;
- Co-supervising PhD candidates in fields of mutual interest;
- Preparing and working on joint reports and books in Persian, Spanish, or English;
- Facilitating visiting opportunities for PhD students and professors to promote academic and research collaboration;
In order to facilitate the cooperation within the framework of the MoU, the parties agreed to form a committee with representatives from both sides to outline the areas of collaboration. The results will be prepared in as separate agreements or contracts and submitted to both institutions for approval.
